The Archangels Describe What Will Come to Be
Happy Independence Day to all my American friends. I was sitting here contemplating how lucky I am to have been born in the United States. The US has a lot of problems, no doubt, but because I was born here, I have had more options regarding the kind of life I wanted. Not everyone has the opportunities I have had, and I’m grateful. It’s not like I earned this life in its entirety.
Yes, I got an advanced education, but that doesn’t mean I’m smarter than other people without an education. Yes, I’ve worked hard, but that doesn’t mean I work harder than those who live in poverty. No one handed me my life on a silver platter. I worked to get where I am now. However, I’ve had the choice, freedom, and opportunities that many people have not had, simply because they were born in a different place under different circumstances.
I know a woman who still cleans houses for other people, and she’s in her 70’s now, born in Mexico. She’s been working since she was ten years old. She doesn’t ever plan to retire. She will probably work until she cannot do so physically anymore. In contrast, I was born into a lower middleclass family in the US. We didn’t have many extras, but we always had plenty to eat, a roof over our heads, and whatever basics we needed. We also had the opportunity…
