Thanks to all of you who have sent love and prayers our way, as my mother-in-law continues to battle her stage four breast cancer. If you’re new to this series, my mother-in-law is 93 years old, and she’s a real treasure. Her cancer is such that she cannot opt out of chemotherapy. After we found out, my prayer was that she wouldn’t have to suffer greatly through chemo, as that was her greatest fear, and so far, my prayer has been answered. She lost her hair, and she’s very tired, but those are the only side effects with which she has dealt. Let’s get the medical stuff out of the way before we move on to the hilarity.

We had a big appointment in January after a CT scan to see what effect the chemo was having on the cancer. I wasn’t expecting good news, mostly because she’d found a couple more sores forming on her body. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that her cancer has been stabilized, at least for now. It hasn’t shrunk, but it hasn’t spread anymore, either, so they consider it stable.

Mom was hoping that meant she didn’t have to get more chemo for a while, but she was disappointed to hear that it would continue for as long as it kept her stable. You see, it’s not the chemo that upsets her, it’s that I have to take her to so many…
