Traditional Family Values

The Archangels Add Perspective

I hear a lot of talk about traditional family values these days, more specifically that all of our country’s problems revolve around the loss of these values. Texas Governor Abbot has said the severe gun violence and excessive mass shootings are not due to guns themselves or the lack of limits placed on them, but the deterioration of traditional family values.

I resent that. First of all, it’s disrespectful of him to believe that I’m stupid enough to buy that line when the facts show a very clear analysis of what could reduce gun violence, and secondly, people tend to make the past into this perfect time for family, including church on Sundays, respect for elders, and a simpler, more wholesome way of life, and I think that’s overblown and exaggerated to the point of being deceiving, not to mention it being a waste of time.

The past is the past. We can’t go back there, and if you look at the entire picture, most of us wouldn’t want to go back. The only constant we can count on is change. Some of it is good, and some of it is not. Things are very different today than they were in the ’50s, but different doesn’t necessarily mean bad. I enlisted the Archangels in addressing this mindset, and their answer follows.

Question: I want to write about traditional
