The Ten Commandments in a Public School Classroom?

I’m a retired school teacher, I no longer practice Christianity or any other religion, and I believe it is crucial to keep church and state separate for several reasons.

First of all, there are over 333 million people who live in the US, and depending on which source you consult, over 37% are NOT Christian. That’s over a third. All citizens are required to pay taxes, Christian or not, and those taxes are used to fund public education, correct? Why should one religion be required to be represented in a public school classroom, and others not? Why should any one religion be displayed or promoted over another, when a large number of citizens do not practice Christianity?

Secondly, to display one religion’s beliefs over others in a classroom suggests that the religion represented is better than the others, and it is favored, thereby suggesting that those who practice that religion are also better and favored. More importantly, those who practice a different religion or no religion at all appear to be considered as less than those who do. Less important, less favored, less appreciated, less accepted.
