Respect Your Elders
The Archangels Tell Us Why We Should
I’ve written about my 93-year-old mother-in-law before. She’s happy today, because her dear friend of over fifty or sixty years has moved into the same place she lives, and she set out on her walker to visit her this morning on the other side of the campus. My mother in law still lives in the independent living side, while her friend, Frances, moved into assisted living. Frances is also ninety-three, and as old as they are, when they get together, they still giggle like school girls.
My mother-in-law is a treasure, and I can’t imagine not having her in my life, although I know that time is coming. I turn sixty in January. It’s funny how what constitutes qualification for “old age” has changed so many times in my life. I remember when I thought turning forty sounded old. Now I’m thinking sixty doesn’t sound that bad, it’s seventy that brings you into the old age category. It’ll be interesting what thoughts I have when I reach that milestone, but I have a pretty good idea that seventy won’t sound nearly as old as it does now when I get there. I think the elderly are underappreciated, and I asked for some feedback from the Archangels, and their answer follows.
