What’s the Difference?
Spirituality and its practices come with all kinds of jargon, and it can be confusing. It always aggravates me when someone writes an article which gives a definition for something that means so many different things to so many people. If you asked one hundred different people to define spirituality, you’d likely get close to the same number of definitions, because spirituality is very personalized, or should be, anyway.
So, what do you do when it comes to understanding all the spiritual terms you come across? You figure out what they mean to you, what resonates, what makes sense. These are just my interpretations. If you have your own, that’s perfectly fine. If mine don’t resonate, throw them out. If nothing else, perhaps this can serve as a starting point for you to figure out your own meanings and whether or not to use these.
Mantras
Mantra originated in Hinduism and generally refers to a word, phrase, or chant that is repeated in prayer or meditation. This can be many things, but to me, it’s a reminder of what’s very important and a priority to keep in mind. Sometimes, during meditation, usually at the beginning, I’ll use mala beads and recite the word, “love” as I touch each bead. Equally important to me is that I live my life in a way that leads to few regrets…
