Reflections from a New Grandmother

The Archangels have said that our greatest creation is what we make of our life. After spending this week in Dallas, getting to meet my new grandson two weeks after he was born, I think our greatest creations are our children and grandchildren and the rest of our descendants.

I remember when my son was born. I all of a sudden had a new appreciation of and comradery with my own parents. You do, once you’re hit with the combination of overwhelming love and responsibility that slam into you simultaneously once you hold the new little person you helped create. It’s kind of like joining a new club as you wade into the world of parenthood.

Now I have my own grandchildren, and I find myself thinking of my parents again, especially my mother. I remember my mother holding my kids, and she looked so enamored. I thought I understood, but I didn’t, not really, until I held my grandchildren and felt kind of like I’d come full circle, seeing my babies having their own babies. It’s such a kick!

I wasn’t particularly close to my grandparents, but my kids were close to my parents, especially my mother with my son, who she was able to spend more time with, as they lived in the same city for a time.
