I’m Home!

Lessons Learned While Away

If you follow me, you probably know I’ve been out of town for the last five or six weeks, taking care of my grandson while his parents went back to work after parental leave. I got back last night, and I’m busy getting back to my own life. I have to unpack, do laundry, clean out the fridge, take the dog to the groomer, get groceries, and the list goes on and on. Before I dig in too deeply, however, I paused to reflect on the time I was gone, and I wanted to share with you some things I’ve learned.

It’s an odd feeling to be equal parts happy to be home, and sad to leave my kids. Jorgie is four months old now, and he’s changed so much since I saw him shortly after he was born, more in the weeks while I was there, and I know he’ll change much more before I get a chance to see him again. I treasure the time we had together, and I wouldn’t give it up for anything. I’m so fortunate to have had that time together.

I remember when I was pregnant with my son, who now has his own son, and moving back in with my parents for a couple months while his dad moved ahead of us to Colorado. As much as I loved my parents and how great they were to me, it felt so awkward to move back in with them, even for a short time. I was used to living in my own home, doing things my own way, and being back with them wasn’t very comfortable.
