If Meditation Is Hard For You …
Suggestions to Make It Easier
Good day, everyone. I got an email from a reader recently who struggles with focus when trying to meditate, and I wrote back and told her I could totally relate. As I sent her some suggestions, I wondered if there were others out there who could benefit from them, so here I am.
To me, meditation is a form of prayer. I also enjoy praying the rosary, and I think that is a type of meditation, which is also a kind of prayer. My point is, there’s a lot of overlap here. I think a lot of us need more structure, at least when we begin to meditate, and I also think there are some misconceptions out there about meditation, which I’d like to clear up.
First of all, make your practice your own. Do what feels right and what works for you. You don’t have to sit in the lotus position, legs double crossed, while making circles with your fingers and thumbs, while you chant “Ohm,” unless that’s what works best for you. Honestly, if I spent a lot of time sitting like that, I’d be in so much pain, I wouldn’t be able to concentrate on anything other than hurting. I’m getting old (er).
You can sit, stand, recline, lay down, walk, or anything else that feels good for you. If you lay down, don’t get upset if you fall asleep! If you do, you’re tired and relaxed enough to get the rest your…
