I Left Christianity
And I’ve Never Felt Closer to Jesus
My belief system has changed multiple times throughout my life. Sometimes, the adjustments were minor, while other changes have meant huge upheaval with which I had to come to terms. Every, single time, I’ve felt closer to God.
I was raised in the Christian faith, although my parents were not church goers. We said our prayers every night, and I went to Sunday School when I was a kid, then church services as I got older in several churches throughout the years, all Christian based. Some I liked better than others, and I often enjoyed the community.
I’ve gone through quite a bit of angst where religion is concerned in my life. I started praying the rosary while I was still a protestant, and I wondered if God would be angry I wasn’t praying directly to Him, instead of asking the Holy Mother to pray for me. Good news! I wasn’t struck down by lightning or anything!
I eventually joined the Catholic church, even though there were several things with which I disagreed. I didn’t agree with their views on birth control, homosexuality, confession, or limiting communion, but I was assured that was okay, as long as I prayed about it.
I overlooked a lot of things that didn’t make sense to me about Christianity in general, and I was able to mostly find my way…
