I Don’t Recognize the US Anymore

Personal Rights Have Apparently Fallen Out of Favor

I don’t recognize my country, the United States of America, anymore. Land of the free? Where freedom rings? Apparently not.

I’ve never felt unequal to men in any way, and until the reversal of Roe, I was never treated like I was inferior. I know misogyny is alive and well, but it never seemed mainstreamed or widely accepted until now. Maybe because my career was in education where there are more women than men to be found, I was never treated as anything other than an equal. Now, I feel like a second class citizen, I feel disrespected, and I feel less than in the eyes of those in power.

How dare the government tell women they have no right to decide whether or not to have a child? How dare they tell us that we don’t have a say regarding our own bodies? This should be a personal decision made by the woman who is directly affected by the outcome, not any religious group or government body. How is this not common sense?

It’s not just the Roe reversal that blind-sided me, although that’s a big part of it. SCOTUS also found in favor of enforced Christian prayer on a public school campus. I find this almost as horrifying. Why? Because it’s all about the people in power forcing their chosen religious beliefs on others. This is not…
