The Archangels Give Us Guidance
Did any of you catch the article about a lawyer in Florida who was fired by Governor Desantis after indicating he would not be prosecuting women who crossed the state line to get an abortion? You see, in Florida, it’s not only illegal to get an abortion there, but it is against the law to cross the state line to get an abortion, too. Desantis and his views are extremely disturbing to me, but that’s a topic for another article.
Back to the lawyer, he has gone to court to get his job back. A lower court ruled that Desantis did not have the authority to fire him, but that they, the court, did not have the authority to reinstate him, so he’s appealed to the Florida Supreme Court.
The first thing I thought of was, I admire him for taking a stand on moral grounds, assuming that was his reasoning. Then, I thought further, beyond prosecuting someone accused of this “crime”, but how spending time on those cases takes time away from prosecuting others. You know, violent offenders, robbers, etc. The real criminals whose actions adversely affect others.
Florida is slightly higher than average in terms of crime in the country, so it’s not like prosecuting attorneys are twiddling their thumbs with nothing to do. For whatever his reasons were, I admire the attorney for taking…
