Hey there,

Thanks for the comment and the question. Obviously, I’m not a doctor, and this is definitely outside my skill set, but I do have some thoughts. I never connected psychic skills to people with mental illness, but I’d say that’s a real possibility. I’m a retired teacher, and I’ve worked with several kids with learning issues. I’m also a reading specialist, and I’ve worked with many dyslexic students.

Dyslexia is a lifelong problem, but you can learn to manage it. The dyslexic kids I worked with were some of the brightest students I’ve ever taught. Their brains were just wired differently and the way reading is taught in most places didn’t work for them. They see the whole, final picture, then figure out where to put the pieces to make it look like what they visualize, and reading is usually taught in pieces (sound of letters make words, words make sentences, etc.). Then I started thinking about how some sevants (sp?) are unable to learn like “normal” kids and sometimes have disabilities, but they’re gifted in something. So, I began to wonder if their my students’ brains were not only different, but enhanced in some areas.

Are you still with me? Then I worked with Asperger kids, a form of autism. Again, a lot of these kids were super smart, but they had a hard time in other areas, like relating to other people and their environment. So … then I began wondering if it was another brain difference, which led me to think that possibly, their psychic senses were more enhanced, and there was a kind of trade off with their regular senses.

After I started reading about psychic abilities and spiritual awareness, I think that’s a real possibility. So, although I didn’t connect the dots with schizophrenia and other mental illnesses, I did with learning disabilities, and it all makes sense. I mean, if I told a medical doctor I hear voices in my head, I’m sure they would consider mental illness a possible cause, right? I can tell you there have been several people on this platform who have flat out told me I needed meds or medical help, and they were very belittling and condescending when they did so.

So, bottom line, I think it’s entirely possible for misdiagnosis and certainly misunderstanding when it comes to psychic gifts, mental illness, learning disabilities, and who knows what else when it comes to these connections. I can tell you that some of my Asperger kids were more advanced spiritually speaking than their peers.

This is probably way more than you wanted to know, but I’m excited to know I’m not the only one who thinks there might be connections. God knows a lot of “disorders” are misdiagnosed, misunderstood, and often are more unknown than known. Thanks for the question! I hope it provokes more dialogue.

Blessings to you,

Jodie
