Great question. It’s the egos job to protect us, but it’s most often steeped in fear based on the past, in regard to the future. The ego tells us to be afraid of the unknown, the misunderstood, and of things that many times are not likely to happen. Also, it triggers fear for a lot of things that are not in our control.

When I was in high school, I was leaving a basketball game and headed to the pay phone to call my mom for a ride. Two brothers, who were pretty good friends of mine, offered me a ride. I got a very strong foreboding not to go with them, and I lied and said my mom was already on the way. Thank God I listened to my intuition. The next week we found out the brothers got high on something and raped two girls, put them in the hospital. That could’ve been me.

That’s very different from, “Should I or shouldn’t I” or thinking something bad might happen, esp. when it didn’t make sense. There was no thinking involved, just a strong feeling to avoid the situation.” It was immediate and visceral. There was no sign that they meant any harm, just an overpowering feeling of not going with them. There was nothing logical about it.

Hope that helps a little. I always pay attention to something that comes out of the blue, that has no reason I know of for such a strong feeling or reaction.

Blessings, Myron.
