Finding the Courage to Seek the Truth

It’s Often Uncomfortable and Inconvenient, but it’s Essential

Truth hurts. The truth will eventually come out. You can’t argue with the truth. Facts are facts. Ignorance is bliss. All of these sayings make a good point, and that is that truth isn’t always pleasant, comfortable, or satisfying, but when it comes to factual information that can be verified and proven, the truth is undeniable. Or is it?

People turn away from the truth all too often when it doesn’t match up with their opinion or serve them well. They justify the unjustifiable, they contradict themselves, and they compromise their principals at times, because to face the truth is sometimes difficult, stressful, and humiliating, especially when you’ve accepted untruths as your guidance in the past. Here’s the thing, though, you can choose to lie to others, but if you choose to lie to yourself, that’s a million times worse, because whether or not you are courageous enough to face the truth, it still exists.

I try to make it a point to do a little research when writing an article on a particular topic of which I’m not an expert. First of all, I don’t ever want to mislead anyone or spread any propaganda, and second of all, if I found out I did misrepresent something, I’d have to go back and clarify, because it would bother me until…
