Elderly Wisdom, Part One
Ten Things I’ve Learned in My Life
I’m older, fatter, more wrinkled, and my natural golden highlights have turned silver. Having said all that, I’m also wiser. Some of that wisdom was learned the easy way, by learning from others’ mistakes or by listening to the wisdom they were willing to share, while some of it — okay, probably a lot of it — was learned the hard way, through personal experience, but learning is learning. Here’s hoping you’ll learn the easier way, from me, rather than having to go through everything I did in order to get so smart!
Words like all, none, always, and never are almost always disqualifiers for the true nature of things, people and situations.
As soon as you think you’ve got all the bases covered, you’ll find an exception, more than likely lots of exceptions. This is especially and blatantly true when it comes to stereotypes of people. No, all Trump supporters are not ignorant, uneducated bigots, and all Democrats are not bleeding heart liberals who want to take away constitutional rights. We’re too different to be lumped into categories, even though we so often try to do exactly that. When I was a teacher, I taught my students to eliminate answers with these words on multiple choice tests!
