Conflict Between Generations
The Archangels Weigh In
You know, it seems if we’re not fighting amongst ourselves about one thing, we’re fighting against another. And for what? What does it solve? How does it help? I feel like a referee sometimes, trying to smooth things over, build bridges, and suggest unity. Christians and atheists arguing, pro-life v. pro-choice people screaming, scientists and fundamentalist set on disproving each other’s beliefs. People from different places criticizing each other.
The other day, someone in Europe commented on an article about the shortage of baby formula in the US, saying he was sick of hearing about America’s self-inflicted problems. Although there is truth in what he says, I have to wonder, where is his compassion? Babies didn’t cause their food shortage. They’re innocent! How can anyone not care about the welfare of babies?!
Lately, there’s a lot of criticism between generations that I’ve come across here on Medium, and I find it crazy, not to mention a waste of time. For the record, I was born in 1963, so I’m labeled at the tail end of the baby boomers. There’s no doubt that there are more problems now than ever, and I worry for my kids and grandkids. I’m also a retired teacher who worked with upcoming generations for nearly three decades. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve defended future generations to people…
