Bible Series #7: The Wrath of God
With Commentary by the Archangels
I was a pretty good kid in high school. I didn’t do drugs, I didn’t sleep around, and I didn’t get into trouble in or out of school, for the most part. When I came to a crossroads of some kind and had to make a choice about something, I made mostly good choices for two reasons. First, I was afraid of my very strict dad, and second, I never wanted to be a source of disappointment for my mom. When push came to shove, disappointing my mother was a much stronger deterrent, because I loved her so much, a whole lot more than I was afraid of my dad. No contest.
The reason I bring that up has to do with today’s Bible series article, regarding the wrath of God that’s depicted in several places in the Bible. Here are a couple:
For the Lord thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous god. (Deuteronomy 4:24)
The wrath of God is being revealed from Heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness. (Romans 1:18)
I have always been bothered by the idea that God visits his wrath on us, strikes people down out of anger or jealousy. It doesn’t match up with the god that I know, who is a loving god. I asked the Archangels to comment on these verses and others like them, and their reply follows.
