The Archangels Tell Us Why We Should Help Others
I was filling up my car a while back when a man approached me and kindly asked for money. I’d seen him before and helped him in the past, and I was reaching into my purse to see what I could give him, when another man interrupted the exchange to inform me I was being lied to, that this man asking for help was here repeatedly with the same story, and none of it was true.
The first man tried to explain, while the second continued to refute the story, until I stopped both of them by handing the first guy a couple of dollars. The second man asked me why I would help a liar and criticized the action, telling me how he knew he was right, and I stopped him again and said, “I don’t care whether or not he was lying or telling me the truth.”
Clearly perplexed, he asked me why I would do something so foolhardy, to which I simply answered that I’d helped him, because he asked me for help, and I was in a position to help him, so I did. He answered that the man probably had more money than I did after he made his rounds. I told him I doubted that, but even if that was true, I’d never had to beg for anything, and as far as I was concerned, that put me in a better position than he was in.
